Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle wasnt giving specifics about Tyler Bozaks upper-body injury suffered Tuesday against the San Jose Sharks, but said that the teams No. 1 centre will have an MRI to determine its severity. Bozak left the bench and went down the tunnel early in the second period, returned to play a handful of shifts and then did play in the third. When Bozak was in the game in the second, he assisted on Phil Kessels power play goal. He took just three more shifts after that, including one that lasted only 13 seconds. Bozak missed 12 games earlier this season with a hamstring injury. The news didnt get better for the team on Wednesday after Kessel left practice early with what Carlyle described as a tweak and added that he, "wasnt feeling well in one area of his body." Carlyle was unsure if Kessel would be available on Thursday when the Leafs take on the Dallas Stars. "He just told me needed to leave the ice surface," he told reporters.  The Leafs are already without centre Dave Bolland (severed tendon in ankle), winger Joffrey Lupul (groin) and defenceman Cody Franson (lower body), though Franson told reporters hes good to go on Thursday. Centre Nazem Kadri missed Tuesdays game against the Sharks because of a death in the family. The club also announced Wednesday that forward Jerred Smithson was being placed on waivers. The Leafs signed Smithson to a contract for the remainder of the 2013-14 NHL season last month. Hes been held pointless in 13 games this season with a minus-4. Giovanni Fiore Jersey . The order didnt much matter. "I was looking for the strikeout initially," Boxberger said. "But it worked out to get the double play and limit the damage." Evan Longoria homered, Ben Zobrist doubled twice and the Rays finally broke through offensively against Detroit, but it was Boxbergers relief work that preserved a 6-3 victory over the Tigers on Friday night. Tampa Bay was up 5-2 when he came on in the sixth inning. Torii Hunter hit into a double play, bringing home another run. Then Boxberger struck out Don Kelly to end the inning. Boxberger struck out two more in a perfect seventh before exiting the game. The 26-year-old right-hander now has 51 strikeouts in 33 1-3 innings this year. The Rays had gone 19 straight games against the Tigers without scoring more than four runs, a streak that went back more than three years. Tampa Bay had seven extra-base hits Friday, including a two-run triple by Sean Rodriguez in the sixth. Alex Cobb (4-6) allowed three runs and five hits in five-plus innings for the Rays, and their bullpen allowed only one baserunner. Boxberger was perfect for two innings, Joel Peralta worked the eighth, and Jake McGee finished for his fourth save. Detroits Drew Smyly (4-8) allowed five runs and seven hits in 5 1-3 innings. There were three hit batsmen, and umpires warned both benches in the sixth. After the warnings, Rays manager Joe Maddon argued and was ejected. Desmond Jennings doubled twice and scored three runs for the Rays. Tampa Bay rebounded after an 8-1 loss Thursday to start this four-game series, and the last-place Rays have now won six of seven. Detroits AL Central lead over Kansas City fell to four games. Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez left in the eighth because of back irritation. "He aggravated his side, so we got him out of there," Detroit manager Brad Ausmus said. "The chances of him playing (Saturday) are almost nil, and well go day-to-day after that." Jennings and Zobrist hit back-to-back doubles in the third to give Tampa Bay a 1-0 lead, and Longoria led off the fourth with his 11th homer of the year. An RBI groundout bby Hunter in the bottom of the fourth made it 2-1.dddddddddddd Zobrist hit an RBI double in the fifth, and Rodriguezs triple the following inning brought two more runs in. Cobb hit Ian Kinsler to lead off the bottom of the sixth — with Miguel Cabrera on deck. Longoria and Martinez had been hit earlier in the game, so plate umpire Quinn Wolcott warned both benches. "I never thought there was any malice on either side," Ausmus said. "I didnt think Cobb meant to hit Victor, I didnt think Smyly meant to hit Longoria, and I didnt think Cobb meant to hit Kinsler. No one tried to hit anyone." Maddon said he felt the Tigers intentionally hit Longoria, but he said the Rays werent throwing at Kinsler immediately afterward. "We hit Victor, yes. Totally accident, he pulls a fastball. Then they intentionally hit Longo," Maddon said. "Were not going to reciprocate right there. Were not, its over. Were good. But then this whole other thing ensues." Maddon took a few steps out of the dugout, and second base umpire Greg Gibson seemed to motion to him to stay back. Maddon continued arguing from a distance, and after being tossed, Maddon approached Gibson and kept arguing before finally leaving. It was Maddons third ejection of the year and 35th of his career. Cobb didnt get another out. Cabrera walked and Martinez hit an RBI single. After J.D. Martinez walked to load the bases, Boxberger came on and got Hunter to bounce into a double play that brought another run home. "The double play was a big bonus, because hes in there to miss bats in that moment," Maddon said. "You want the guy to either put the ball on the ground or be able to punch somebody out. Now if you get a guy who can do both, how good is that guy?" Kelly struck out to end the threat. Jennings doubled and scored in the seventh to make it 6-3. NOTES: Peralta made his 267th appearance for the Rays, the most for the franchise by a pitcher. Esteban Yan had 266. ... Austin Jackson struck out four times for Detroit and Eugenio Suarez fanned three times. ... The Rays put LHP Cesar Ramos on the paternity list and recalled LHP Jeff Beliveau from Triple-A Durham. ... Fort Worth, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Trevone Boykin threw for four touchdowns and caught a pass for a score, powering fourth-ranked TCU to a share of the Big 12 title with a 55-3 rout of Iowa State. The Horned Frogs entered the game third in the College Football Playoff rankings and are hopeful Saturdays effort will impress the selection committee enough to keep them in the exclusive four-team field, which will be announced Sunday. Boykin was 30-of-41 for 460 yards and added 44 yards on eight carries. Aaron Green rushed for 104 yards and a score and also caught a touchdown pass for TCU (11-1, 8-1 Big 12), which will be co-conference champions with Baylor -- the only team to defeat the Horned Frogs this season. Sam B. Richardson completed only 16-of-40 passes for 152 yards and one interception for the Cyclones (2-10, 0-9), who concluded the season with six consecutive losses. The Horned Frogs opened the scoring on a trick play. Boykin threw a backward pass to the left side of the field to wide receiver David Porter, who fired back across to the TCU quarterback. Boykin then followed a convoy of blockers as he raced down the right sideline for a 55-yard touchdown 5 1/2 minutes in. TCU marched 86 yards in 12 plays on its next possession and went up 14-0 on Greens 3-yard touchdown run. The Cyclones were in the red zone at the outset of the second quarter, but wound up settling for a 26-yard Cole Netten field goal after Ben Boesen dropped a pass in the end zone. Boykin later completed a 49-yard pass to Kolby Listenbee to set up Jaden Oberkroms 39-yard field goal. Iowa State then failed to capitalize on a TCU miscue. The Cyclones had the ball at the TCU 39 following a muffed punt, but turned it over on the next play. Unlike the Horned Frogs, they were unsuccessful on a trick play, as Ranthony Texada picked off an underthrown pass from wideout Jarvis West. TCU looked to extend its lead before halftime, but Boykin was intercepted by Sam E. Richardson in the end zone. We knew we had to make a statement, but we started slow, said TCU head coach Gary Patterson. Defensively, we were playing all day. Offensively, we hurt ourselves and we still had almost 500 yards at halftime. We just didnt get in the end zone. We came out in the second half and started to do some things. The Horned Frogs broke the game open in the third quarter by scoring 31 points. Green caught a pass in the flat on 3rd-and-3 and sprinted 54 yards to the end zone on the opening drive of the second half. Oberkrom made a 23-yard field goal, Derrick Kindred scored on a 44-yard return after picking off Sam B. Richardson and Boykin threw touchdown passes of 18 and 45 yards to Josh Doctson and Deante Gray, respectively. Boykin capped his glittering performance with a 14-yard TD pass to JaJuan Story early in the fourth quarter. We were pesky for 30 minutes, said Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads. I was pleased with the effort and the response of our guys in the first 30 minutes. We were worn out for that 30-minute effort and I think that showed quickly in the second half. Game Notes Boykin established a single-season school record with 30 touchdown passes. He broke the previous mark of 27 set by Andy Dalton in 2010 ... TCU has forced at least one turnover in 24 straight games ... Iowa State has lost 12 straight games against ranked opponents since a 37-23 win at then-No. 15 TCU on Oct. 6, 2012 .. The 21-year old has proven to be a real weapon from the bench for compatriot Diego Simeone, with two goals - including an equaliser in the 1-1 draw at Camp Nou - and an assist all coming as a substitute. The youngster has fast become a fan favourite, weighing in with a tackle every 37 minutes and utilising his pace and trickery to complete a dribble every 16 - more often than any other player in La Liga to start a game this season.Joshua Kimmich - WhoScored.com rating 7.34Having become something of an experimental pet project of Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich last season, Kimmich has been restored to a more familiar midfield role under Carlo Ancelotti and is really flourishing this season. "Whenever I think back to March 17, 1934 and how the Maple Leafs honoured me with a night, Im still amazed at the work they went to just for me," Clancy humbly stated. Rory McIlroys 75 was his worst score in 29 rounds in the event The defending champion had not carded an over-par score in his previous 28 rounds, but a three-putt bogey on the first green set the tone for his day and he dropped another shot at the sixth. Harrisonburg, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Anderson went 4-for-5 from 3- point range in an 18-point effort as ninth-ranked Virginia tipped off its 2014-15 season with an easy 79-51 win over James Madison. Anthony Gill added 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting and Malcolm Brogdon had 14 for the defending ACC champion Cavaliers (1-0), who were on the mark in all facets in a solid debut. Virginia hit on 58 percent of its field goal tries, including a 5-of-7 display from beyond the arc, while limiting the Dukes to a 28.3 percent shooting rate and forcing 18 turnovers. Hari Hall scored 15 points and Jackson Kent netted 14 to pace James Madison (0-1). The Cavaliers took charge right away, beginning the game on a 14-3 run in which Gill put up nine points, and knocked down nine of their first 10 shots from the floor in building a 31-14 advantage less than 11 minutes in. JMU, which took 16 attempts from 3-point range in the opening half, got a few to fall later on to close the gap. Kents trey with under six minutes to go in the period pulled the Dukes within 35-22, and Hall buried one 4:27 prior to the break to cut the lead to 37-27. Virginia countered with an 11-3 surge, however, and entered the break up 51-33 after Anderson hit a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left. The Cavaliers put the contest well out of reach midway through the second half, with Anderson and Devon Hall each draining threes during a 12-0 stretch that stretched the margin to 70-41 with nine minutes left to play. JMU was held without a field goal for nearly 10 minutes until Joey McLean ended the lengthy drought with a 3-pointer with 4:57 remaining that trimmed the deficit to 73-51. "You cant set Victor Martinez up -- hes just too good at getting the barrel to the ball," Detroit manager Brad Ausmus said. "I dont think it matters what pitch you throw, hes generally going to find a way to do it." Martinez hit a solo homer in sixth inning and Miguel Cabrera also went deep for the Tigers, who won their eighth straight game Wednesday night, 3-2 over the Houston Astros. Martinezs homer came on an 0-2 pitch, when Astros starter Brad Peacock tried to throw a high fastball past the designated hitter. "I have no idea how Victor Martinez even hit that pitch," Houston manager Bo Porter said. "That was up in his eyes and, he not only got a bat on it, he knocked it out of the park." Martinez extended his hitting streak to 10 games, and Rick Porcello (5-1) allowed two runs and seven hits in 6 2-3 innings for the surging Tigers, who remained five games ahead of the second-place Chicago White Sox in the AL Central. Porcello struck out five and walked two. Even Detroits maligned bullpen looked impressive Wednesday. Joba Chamberlain got four outs in relief, striking out the side in the eighth. Joe Nathan pitched the ninth for his seventh save in nine chances. He struck out two, getting Matt Dominguez swinging with a man on third to preserve the win. Houston has lost five straight and seven of eight. Peacock (0-3) allowed three runs and four hits in 6 2-3 innings. He struck out four and walked four. After a slow start, Cabrera is again swinging the bat with authority for the Tigers. After homering in a four-hit, four-RBI performance Tuesday night, he stepped to the plate with a man on Wednesday and lifted a drive to deep right. Houstons George Springer tried valiantly to make the catch at the wall, but the ball nicked off his glove and went over, and the outfielder fell to the ground. It was Cabreras fourth homer of the year. Porcello allowed a run in the third when Marwin&nbssp;Gonzalez doubled and eventually scored on Dexter Fowlers groundout, but the Detroit infield turned double plays in the fifth and sixth to help the 25-year-old right-hander.dddddddddddd In the fifth, Gonzalez was on first and took off toward second when Jose Altuve hit a grounder up the middle. Detroit second baseman Ian Kinsler, in the area because of the steal attempt, simply picked up the ball, stepped on the bag and threw to first for the double play. Martinez homered to right to make it 3-1. It was his sixth home run of the season, and hes now hitting .318 with only five strikeouts all year. With two strikes on him, Martinez was ready for a fastball. "I was looking high fastball," Martinez said. "As soon as I saw it, I was making sure that I get on top." Houston answered with a run in the seventh, chasing Porcello. Marc Krauss hit a two-out double, Dominguez followed with a single, and Gonzalez singled to drive in Krauss. Chamberlain came on and retired Altuve with men on first and second to end that threat. The big reliever then struck out three in the eighth. "Brad was the first one on the stairs and said, You got the eighth," Chamberlain said. "I figured after we got out of the (seventh) that was going to be the case. Just prepare, look up and see whos going to be coming up for their lineup, and kind of a mental plan of what you want to do. It worked out." Nathan entered in the ninth and allowed a two-out walk to Krauss. Pinch-runner Jonathan Villar stole second and third, but Dominguez went down swinging to end it. NOTES: The game started after a 9-minute rain delay, and the wet weather persisted during the early innings. ... Detroits Torii Hunter had his hitting streak snapped at 13 games. ... Peacock has gone eight straight starts -- dating to last season -- without allowing more than three earned runs. ... Springer struck out three times. ... OAKLAND, Calif. -- Yoenis Cespedes is gone to Boston and the Oakland Athletics are slumping without their former slugger. Josh Reddick is a bright spot in the lineup and continues a recent tear, getting a two-run double in the ninth inning of a 7-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday that cost the AL West leaders a sweep. "We couldnt get anything going. Our lineup continues to struggle," Reddick said. "We know we have a good lineup with or without Cespedes. We miss him. Someone has to step up. We havent done that yet. We have to keep grinding." The As acquired ace Jon Lester in last Thursdays trade deadline deal that sent Cespedes out of town, and the pitcher starts again Thursday. The Rays handed reigning AL Pitcher of the Month Sonny Gray (12-5) his second straight defeat following a 5-0 July in which he had a 1.03 ERA. This is the second time Gray has lost consecutive outings in his first full major league season, also to Baltimore and the Yankees on June 7 and 13. "When you put your team in a hole like that, youre putting a lot of pressure on the offence," said Gray, tagged for a career-high 10 hits. "Thats tough to climb out of." Kevin Kiermaier hit a two-run homer to help Jeremy Hellickson end a six-start winless stretch for his first victory in 11 months. Hellickson (1-1) allowed two hits and one run in seven innings, struck out three and walked none. He hadnt reached five innings in any of his previous three starts this year or in five outings dating to the end of the 2013 season. The 2011 AL Rookie of the Year returned late last month following rehab for the January elbow operation. Kiermaiers first-pitch homer in the fourth was just the ninth surrendered this year by Gray, who came into Wednesday with a 1-0 record and 0.61 ERA in two career starts against the Rays. Hellickson retired the first nine As hitters in order before Coco Crisps leadoff single in the fourth, then the right-hander recorded seven more outs in a row. "That looked like the Rookie of the Year Hellickson," manager Joe Maddon said. "My thought is now that hes done it once he can really take off." Eric Sogard broke that up with a sixth-inning homer, snapping a career-high 110-game homerless streak dating to July 21, 2013. Josh Reddick added a two-run double in the ninth off former As closer Grant Balfour. Gray plunked Kiermaier in the fifth to load the bases and Desmond Jennings followed with a two-run single to chase the right-hander after a season-low 4 1-3 innings. Jesse Chavez, moved to the bullpen when Lester arrived, worked 3 2-3 innings. Oaklands No. 3-4 hitters of Josh Donaldson and Brandon Moss went a combined 1 for 7. Tepesch, back from the minor leagues, earned his first major league victory in more than 10 months and the Rangers edged the Seattle Mariners 4-3 on Wednesday.(SportsNetwork.com) - After failing to win consecutive games for the first time in a month, the Boston Bruins now try to avoid an eighth loss in 10 December games on Sunday evening when they take on the Buffalo Sabres. The Bruins snapped a three-game slide with an overtime victory at Minnesota on Tuesday, but capped a three-game swing the following night with a 2-1 setback to the Winnipeg Jets. Defenseman Torey Krug scored the only goal of the game for the Bruins and Tuukka Rask allowed both goals on 27 shots. Weve talked about keeping things going and getting in a groove by getting a win tonight, but we didnt, said Rask. The Bruins were hoping for their first winning streak since a three-game run from Nov. 15-21, but instead fell to 3-6-3 since that time. They also have been held to three goals or fewer 10 times in that 12-game span. Scoring goals, thats whats missing right now, Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara said on his teams website. You know, its one of those things that we need to I guess, a little bit of luck, maybe a bounce here or there. Hosting the Sabres could help. The Bruins have won three in a row in this matchup, including the first two meetings this season that both took place in Buffalo. They have won two straight and five of the past seven meetings in Boston. Rask is 6-5-1 in his career versus the Sabres with a 2.444 goals against average and .dddddddddddd923 save percentage in 14 career encounters, all but one of those starts. The Sabres come into Boston at less than full strength, battling both illness and injury. Matt Moulson was a scratch in Saturdays 5-1 setback to the Colorado Avalanche due to flu-like symptoms, while fellow forward Patrick Kaleta was unable to finish the game because of feeling sick. Buffalo also lost defenseman Tyler Myers to a lower-body injury in the second period and he is questionable for tonights game. As a result, the Sabres had a six-game winning streak at home snapped and have been outscored 10-2 in back-to-back losses following a four-game overall winning streak. Johan Larsson had a third-period goal for his first career NHL tally. He was recalled late in the day from the American Hockey League to replace Moulson and didnt even get to the arena in time for warmups. He had to rush here. Under those circumstances, he played well, plus he scored his first (NHL) goal, said Sabres coach Ted Nolan. Jhonas Enroth stopped 18-of-22 shots for Buffalo, which will try to win for the first time in its past four on the road tonight. Michal Neuvirth could start this game for the Sabres and is 1-3-0 lifetime versus the Bruins with a 3.66 GAA and .861 save percentage in six meetings, including four starts. ' ' '

NEW YORK -- New Jerseys Martin Brodeur outdueled Rangers counterpart Henrik Lundqvist, and that wasnt lost on New York coach Alain Vigneault. Brodeur, the winningest goalie in NHL history, gutted out a 3-2 Devils victory over Lundqvist and the Rangers on Tuesday night. New Jersey took three one-goal leads and made the last one stick after Dainius Zubrus scored with 2:55 remaining. "We tied it up in the third, and we got unfortunate on all their three goals," Vigneault said. "Their goaltender made some big saves at key times." One shot that eluded Lundqvist was singled out by Vigneault -- Ryan Carters second of the game and season that gave the Devils a 2-1 lead with 46.1 seconds left in the second period. Carter beat speedy Rangers forward Carl Hagelin to Adam Larssons dump-in and cut in on Lundqvist. He sent a quick shot through the crease and inside the left post. When asked about Hagelins role in that goal, Vigneault seemingly shifted the focus onto Lundqvist. "Im not quite sure what happened there," Vigneault said. "It was an easy first man on the puck, but mind you its a routine save." Zubrus made it 3-2 when he put in a loose puck after his shot was blocked by defenceman Dan Girardi. That gave Brodeur a third straight win. "Any win at the Garden is a great win," New Devils owner Josh Harris said. Girardi had gotten the Rangers even at 2 when he scored his first of the season with 7:42 left. Girardi banked in a shot from the blue line off the skate of Devils defenceman Adam Larsson, who turned 21 Tuesday. "Just an overall gutsy effort, and our goalie was fantastic," Devils coach Pete DeBoer said. "I think weve gotten nice starting goaltending for the last three weeks." Brodeur, who earlier this season conceded his starting job to newcomer Cory Schneider started and won for the third time in four games. His previous two outings resulted in shutouts. The 41-year-old Brodeur, who made 33 saves, also allowed a second-period goal to Marc Staal in earning his NHL-record 674th win. "I love to play against these guys, and Im sure they feel the same way," said Brodeur, who has beaten the Rangers 48 times. However, he wasnt ready to claim the No. 1 job back. "Ill leave it to the coaches to make those decisions," he said. "Ill never say boo about stuff like that. Karma goes a long way. I have learned that from the past. Ill never ask for anything here. Ill always be ready to play." Schneider shut out the Rangers in the previous meeting in New Jersey on Oct. 19. Lundqvist made 25 saves for New York, which went 0 for 5 on the power play. The Rangers (9-9) had won six of seven to get over .500 for the first time this season. He kept it a one-goal deficit with 7:45 left when he stopped former teammate Jaromir Jagr, who came in alone after leaving the penalty box. "We didnt give anything to them, and we fought all night," said Jagr, who earlier Tuesday told his teammates they would win 3-2. "We had a lot of chances to break it open, especially me. I should have scored on that breakaway, and it would have been 3-1, and game over." But that save wasnt enough for the Rangers. "We came out and did the things that we needed to do," Lundqvist said. "We came back into the game and gave us a chance to win. I had a good feeling, especially when we tied it up, but its over and its a tough one. "A lot of good things, but we needed to find a way to win there, and we didnt." Carter netted his first goal with another aggressive charge. He shoved a shot in close that appeared to hit the skate of backchecking forward J.T. Miller and Lundqvists stick before sneaking inside the left post at 6:37. "Thats the way it works sometimes," Carter said. "You get a few in on shots you might not think are going in. I had some clean shots, some dream shots, and he stopped them." The Rangers bounced right back off a rush by Mats Zuccarello, who curled behind the Devils net and backhanded a pass to Staal for a one-timer from above the left circle. The defencemans second of the season snapped Brodeurs shutout streak at 191 minutes, 21 seconds. Brodeur turned aside a hard drive by Derek Stepan less than 5 minutes in, and then stonewalled Zuccarello twice in the crease. Chris Kreider put the puck into the net, but after the whistle was blown. Brodeur thrust his glove into the face of the 5-foot-7 Zuccarello during a stoppage, and even made a save with his mask, mimicking Lundqvists style. "I wanted to match him up," Brodeur said. "I just saw it last second, and I just reacted, and it went off my head. It was a Lundqvist save, I guess." LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The $2 billion sale of the Los Angeles Clippers will hinge on the technicalities of family trust law and whether Donald Sterlings estranged wife had the right to unilaterally negotiate a deal with former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. The July 7 trial will look at the trusts terms alone and not focus on whether the 80-year-old Sterling is mentally incapacitated, Superior Court Judge Michael Levanas said Monday. Attorneys will argue about whether Shelly Sterling properly followed the terms of the trust in declaring Donald Sterling to be mentally incapacitated and what happens to a deal that hasnt been closed once a trust is revoked. Shelly Sterling struck a deal to sell the team to Ballmer in May after Donald Sterlings racist remarks to a girlfriend were publicized and the NBA moved to oust him as an owner. She had two doctors examine her husband and they declared that he was mentally incapacitated and unable to act as an administrator of The Sterling Family Trust, which owns the Clippers. The terms of the trust say incapacitation can be determined by two licensed doctors without ties to the family who are specialists in their field. In court filings, Donald Sterlings attorneys argued that he submitted to medical examination under false pretenses, there was undue influence in the doctors findings, and that the examination and letters regarding his mental capacity were defective and incomplete. "There was no duping," Shelly Sterlings attorney Pierce ODonnell said Monday. Donald Sterling voluntarily went to Cedars Sinai Imaging Center to get scans of his brain and there was no requirement to remind Donald Sterling, who is an attorney, or his legal team of the trusts conditions, ODonnell wrote in court filings. The judge said another issue likely to be "front and centre" during the trial is what happens to a deal that hasnt been closed when a trust is revoked. Donald Sterling revoked the trust on June 9 — weeks after Shelly Sterling negotiated the deal with Ballmer. Shelly Sterlings attorneys contend that finishing the deal is part of winding down the trusts affairs and that she has an obligation to close the deal or Ballmer will sue. But Donald Sterlings attorneys argue that a revocation means probate court has no jurisdiction and that winding down affairs refers to passive actions, not a sale that markedly changes the assets in the trust and its value. Timing has been an issue throughout the proceedings and the judge denied the request by Donald Sterlings attorneys to postpone the trial. An expedited timetable was put forward from the beginning because NBA owners must approve what would be a record breaking deal and are scheduled to meet July 15 to vote. Thats the same day Ballmers offer is set to expire — and there is no deal without the judges approval of the sale. If the sale isnt completed by Sept. 15, the league said it could seize the team and put it up for auction. ___ Tami Abdollah can be followed at http://www.twitter.com/latams Takkarist McKinley Falcons Jersey . It took a little while, but the Wildcats seem to have their groove back -- just at the right time. Coming off two solid road wins, No. 3 Arizona played one of its best games of the season -- certainly since Ashley went down -- quickly turning its rematch with Cal into an 87-59 rout Wednesday night. Nick Johnson had 22 points after struggling against Cal the first time and Kaleb Tarczewski added 16 points for the Wildcats, who pulled out a tough win at Utah and routed Colorado last week. "Obviously, we played very well tonight, one of our best games of the season," Arizona coach Sean Miller said. "You might make the argument that the game against Colorado and tonights game were the best back-to-back games weve played all season." Cal won the first meeting 60-58 on a last-second jumper by Justin Cobbs that sent the students pouring onto the court. Arizona (26-2, 13-2 Pac-12) ran away from the Bears early in the rematch, using a big first-half run and good shooting all game to prevent the season sweep. T.J. McConnell finished with 13 points and six assists, and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson provided a lift off the bench with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Johnson also had seven rebounds and five assists after scoring four points on 1-of-14 shooting the first game against Cal. "It feels good right now," said McConnell, who has 22 assists and one turnover the past three games. "Were shooting the ball well and when we do that, were tough to beat." Cal (18-10, 9-6), struggled at times against Arizonas defensive pressure and had little chance of stopping the Wildcats at the other end to lose for the 17th time in 19 games at McKale Center. Arizona shot 50 per cent against the Bears and had a 42-25 rebounding advantage, including 15 on the offensive glass. Cobbs led Cal with 12 points. "Theyre good; you have to give credit where credit is due," Cal coach Mike Montgomery said. "They were solid and a little angry having lost to us. Theyre making shots now and at our place they werent making all their shots. Theyre playing really well right nnow.dddddddddddd" Arizona wanted a little revenge after what happened in the first meeting against Cal. The Wildcats entered the Feb. 1 game with the No. 1 ranking and a school-record 21-game winning streak. They left Berkeley with their first loss of the season -- thanks to Cobbs stepback jumper with 0.9 seconds left -- and Ashley in a walking boot after he injured his right foot going up for a rebound in the first half. Ashley is done for the season, but Arizona has found ways to win without him, picking up three victories in four games, including Sundays 88-61 blowout at Colorado. The Wildcats started slowly in the rematch against Cal, opening 1 for 6 to miss more shots in the first 3 1-2 minutes than they did the entire half against Colorado (22 for 26). Once they got rolling, the Bears couldnt keep up. Triggered by its defence, Arizona went on a 12-2 run, building its lead to 39-23 on a series of steals and dunks. Johnson had one dunk in transition after a steal and Aaron Gordon had another, racing off for a head-above-the-rim reverse dunk that triggered a roar inside McKale Center. Hollis-Jefferson had a high-flying dunk on an alley-oop pass on an inbounds play, then threw down a tomahawk in transition after Johnson tracked down Cobbs to block his layup from behind at the other end. Arizona made 18 of 36 shots to lead 44-29 at halftime. Johnson had 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting, four rebounds and three assists while leading the top of Arizonas defence with McConnell at the top. "Its always good when everybody is hitting shots," Johnson said. "Whenever you hit a shot, it feels good and you hit a few in a row, its great for your confidence." The Wildcats quickly built the lead to 20 points in the second half, but Cal showed a little resiliency, going on an 11-0 run that cut Arizonas lead to 53-44. That was as close as the Bears would get. Arizona turned up the pressure again, McConnell hit a 3-pointer in transition and Gordon soared in for another dunk, putting the Wildcats back comfortably ahead, 70-52. "We cant afford a 15-point deficit against a team like Arizona," Cobbs said. "We played well for a stretch and cut the lead by eight, but they executed well on offence and I give them credit." ' ' '

The NFL club and Rogers Communications announced Wednesday theyve put the beleaguered Bills Toronto Series -- which features Buffalo playing exhibition and regular-season games at Rogers Centre -- on hold for at least a year. That means the team will play eight home games at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y., for the first time since 2007. "The plan is to postpone it for one year, regroup and determine whats the next best step," said Keith Pelley, the president of Rogers Communications media division. "Its not nullified right now, we have an agreement in place. "Anything is possible but thats not the plan. The plan is to take a step back and say, OK, the Series is having some challenges, the NFL is still big in Toronto, its still important to the Bills so whats the best way to move forward?" The decision comes a little more than a year after the Bills and Rogers agreed to renew the series for five years, though 2017 after the original five-year deal expired. A series-low gathering of 38,969 watched the Atlanta Falcons nip Buffalo 34-31 in overtime Dec. 1 at Rogers Centre, which can seat 54,000 spectators for football. The loss dropped the Bills regular-season record in Toronto to a dismal 1-5 -- and 0-4 in December -- since the start of the series in 08. Buffalo also sports the NFLs longest active post-season drought at 14 straight seasons. Bills president Russ Brandon said the atmosphere at Rogers Centre versus Atlanta figured in the clubs decision to take a step back. "I think thats a fair comment," Brandon told reporters in Orchard Park. "Obviously were trying to build a fan base north of the border and this year I would say it was a neutral crowd. "Some of that had to do with how we played over the last six years, (that) has really not been conducive to building a lot of fans that were NFL fans, but were trying to make them Bills fans. Were going to continue to try to do that through a variety of initiatives that we will be working with Rogers over the next year in a very robust sponsorship and partnership that we will have that will cater to fans above the border." Following the loss to Atlanta, Brandon publicly questioned whether his club loses its competitive edge playing in Toronto. Buffalo has often battled neutral crowds at its home away from home. Bills games at Rogers Centre routinely attract a mix of NFL fans who proudly don their team colours and cheer as loudly -- or sometimes louder -- for Buffalos opponent than the home team. In fact, several Falcons players were surprised at the support they received at Rogers Centre. "It didnt feel like we were in Canada," said Atlanta safety William Moore. "I even saw a No. 25 jersey (Moores number) out there." Whats more, playing in a domed facility robs the Bills of their biggest home advantage: The cold, windy conditions that are the norm in December at Ralph Wilson Stadium. "Were going to go through a detailed full analysis," Brandon said. "Were going to look at every aspect that if we do come back we have a more robust fan experience and try to create more of a home field advantage for us.dddddddddddd "Right now that was not the situation. That was one of the reasons we want to get in to a lot of detail with our partners up there and see if that is viable moving forward." Brandons statement "if we do come back," prompted a followup question regarding whether the Bills mightve played their final game in Toronto. "What I said is that were going through a full evaluation process and well work with our partners," Brandon responded. The Bills Toronto Series was unveiled as an attempt to showcase Toronto as a viable NFL city. Rogers Communications Inc. paid US$78 million to stage eight games -- five regular season, three exhibition -- expecting southern Ontario fans to flock to Rogers Centre. But high-priced tickets -- initially averaging over $180 each, compared to roughly US$51 at Orchard Park --and struggling Bills teams combined to make it a tough sell. Tickets were reduced to roughly an average price of $99 to make the game more affordable but even that didnt result in a sellout. "Its always very difficult to change public opinion midway through a project," Pelley said. "Theres no hiding the fact the series did not get off to a rosy start. "It tough midway through to change that perception, hence the reason why we thought it would be a best to take a year off then re-launch it once weve thought that through." Series organizers have also struggled to find the right formula to re-create the NFL experience here. A huge attraction for many American football fans is arriving at the stadium hours before kickoff, setting up the barbecue to cook a variety of foods while throwing a football around in the parking lot or breaking down the upcoming game with friends over a cold beer. However, provincial laws make that impossible in Toronto. The creation of the series also fuelled speculation Toronto would be the landing spot for the Bills upon the death of Ralph Wilson Jr., the clubs 95-year-old owner. However, Brandon routinely stated the NFL club was merely broadening its regional base to include Canadas largest city and generate additional revenue. Brandon said the Bills must take ownership for their role in the series struggles. "I think its been a roller-coaster from the standpoint of just the losses," he said. "Thats on us. "Some of the initiatives Rogers has worked through on their end have improved, but obviously this past year was disappointing with that neutral crowd that we had there, to say the least. I think there have been positives. As I mentioned earlier, the biggest positive has been the influx of fans back here at Ralph Wilson Stadium." Now the question remains whether the Bills can sell out eight home games in 2014. "Obviously last year we had to really work for our sellouts, understandably so," Brandon said. "Thats something that were willing to take on, that challenge. "We have very passionate fans and tremendous fans, but we have to really work to sell tickets here as weve discussed in the past. Were not satisfied until every seat in this building is sold. Thats always the No. 1 initiative and really the foundation of how we run our business." ' ' '

SAN DIEGO -- Miguel Montero and the Arizona Diamondbacks are moving up. Montero hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning, lifting the Diamondbacks past the Padres 3-1 on Saturday night and out of last place in the NL West. The Diamondbacks started the season 8-22. With the win, they moved percentage points ahead of the Padres in the standings at 35-48. "I guess its good to get out of last place," Montero said. "I hope we continue like that and see where we are going." Montero struck out against Eric Stults in his first at-bat but connected for his 11th home run next time up. The homer came on a changeup, something he had missed on in his earlier at-bat. When Stults tried to fool him later, Montero was ready. "I put a good swing on that one," he said. "It was middle, middle-in, and sometimes those are pulled foul. But it stayed fair so I guess I stayed inside the ball very good." Josh Collmenter (6-5) pitched 5 1-3 innings, giving up one run and five hits as Arizona won consecutive games for the first time since June 7-8 against Atlanta. Addison Reed worked the ninth inning for his 19th save in 22 chances. He was the fourth Arizona reliever, a group which didnt allow a hit or run over the final 3 2-3 innings. "I kind of wished I would have gone deeper in the game," Collmenter said. "But the bullpen did a great job tonight." Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson saluted his bullpen as well, and noted it was a typical game at Petco Park. "Its hard to score in this park and we played just well enough to win," he said. It was difficult for Padres manager Bud Black to accept the loss, the Padres third straight defeat. "One bad pitch," Black said of Stults offering to Montero. "Tried to get a changeup down and away and he just missed his spot." Stults (2-11) became the majors leader in losses, with an NL-high 5.36 ERA. He also went 5 1-3 innings and yielded three runs -- two earned -- while giving up just three hits. Stults walked three for the second straight game and stuck out two in losing his career-high sixth consecutive start. Paul Goldschmidt was aboard for Monteros homer, after walking and reaching second on a botched double-play attempt. Martin Prado grounded to Chase Headley, but his throw to second baseman Alexi Amarista was high, with Goldschmidt being safe. Amarista retired Prado at first, a play which was challenged by Gibson but upheld. "I just got underneath it a little bit and it sailed," Headley said. "Lexi did a great job to make a play and get an out still." When Stults hit Cody Ross right after Montero homered, he was pulled in favour of Alex Torres. He prevented further damage by getting Gerardo Parra and Collmenter on grounders to first base. Matt Stites relieved Collmenter in the sixth inning, and walked Cameron Maybin to load the bases with two outs. But Rene Rivera, who had two hits, struck out. The Diamondbacks tied the score in the third inning, thanks in part to an error by Rivera. Ender Inciarte singled and stole second, advancing to third when Riveras throw was off line. Inciarte scored on Prados one-out sacrifice fly. Tommy Medica drove in the games first run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Chris Denorfia opened the inning with a double and took third on Seth Smiths grounder to first base. The Padres threatened in the fifth inning when Rivera led off with a single and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Everth Cabrera. But Amarista flied out and Stults struck out. Speaking to the Chicago Tribune at baseballs Winter Meetings in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, Boras called the former home of the Expos a "tremendous environment" for baseball. "I remember in 94, when you go back and look at their attendance rates and the market, the people and the Canadian rivalry, I really thought baseball was in a good place," Boras told the Tribune. "The players enjoyed playing there. Its a beautiful city." Boras was discussing the Rays as an example of a team that is well run and successful, but still has difficulty drawing fans to the stadium. "My point was that baseball, collectively, to protect the game, to protect the market, and you have a product that is so successful and the market is nott responding to it, what is the reason? "The reason is not the performance of the franchise or the players," Boras continued.dddddddddddd "The reason has to be theres a dynamic operating here that is not consistent with what other markets do in baseball." Boras, who represents Jacoby Ellsbury, Alex Rodriguez, and J.D. Drew among dozens of others, discussed the importance of support for a team from its local community. "Clearly if you win and youre successful, your fan base rewards. So my suggestion of New Jersey or Montreal or somewhere ... The idea is for the betterment of the game. I think we have to look at (possibly moving in) markets that arent rewarding playing the game at a high level." Boras told the Tribune that New Jersey may be difficult as an option with the Yankees and Mets already in the New York City area. ' ' '

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice has been indicted on a charge he assaulted his fiancee during an argument in an elevator at an Atlantic City, N.J., casino last month. Rice had been charged with simple assault after police said he knocked out Janay Palmer on Feb. 15 at the Revel Casino. But a grand jury Thursday indicted him on a more serious count of aggravated assault, which carries a three-to-five-year sentence. Palmer also had been charged with simple assault. But prosecutors say that complaint was administratively dismissed. The couple live in the Baltimore suburb of Reistertown. Palmers attorney has said hes certain no crime was committed. General manager Reggie McKenzie announced the move to Sparano after cutting ties to Allen four games into his third season as coach. Sparano had a 29-32 record as head coach in Miami from 2008-11. He took over a one-win team in 2008 and led the Dolphins to an 11-5 record and an AFC East title. That was his only winning season and he was fired with three games remaining in 2011. Sparano has been offensive line coach the past two seasons in Oakland. Tony Sparano has a strong presence in this organization, McKenzie said. His experience and leadership qualities will serve the team well in helping reach the goal of everyone here, which is to win football games. Sparano becomes Oaklands eighth coach in the past 12 seasons. The Raiders have not made the playoffs or had a winning record since winning the 2002 AFC championship. The Raiders are off this week after losing 38-14 to Miami in London on Sunday for their 10th straight loss dating to last season. Oakland next plays at home against San Diego on Oct. 12. Allen was the first head coach hired by Oakland after Al Davis death in October 2011. His 8-28 record is the worst for the franchise since before Davis arrived in 1963. His contract was set to run through next season. After thorough evaluation, we have determined to move in another direction, McKenzie said. We appreciate Dennis Allens dedication to the organization and wish him and his family nothing but the best in the future. Allen is the third coach fired during the season by Oakland since Davis arrived. Mike Shanahan was fired after four games in 1989 and Lane Kiffin was let go four games into the 2008 season. The Raiders have had 11 straight seasons without a winning record or a playoff berth. Oakland will now have its eighth coach since 2003. Allen and McKenzie were hired after the team finished 8-8 under coach Hue Jackson in 2011, falling one game short of a playoff bid. They were expected to steady a franchise that ran into disrepair duringg Davis final years as owner.ddddddddddddInstead, the team has only gotten worse. The two were hamstrung their first two seasons by a lack of premium draft picks and a difficult salary-cap situation due to bad contracts handed out by Davis. But after spending their first two years tearing down the team, owner Mark Davis expected the Raiders to be much more competitive this season after having ample salary cap room in the off-season and a near-full complement of draft picks. Instead, the Raiders have looked overmatched at times. They fell behind 27-0 after three quarters of their only home game against Houston and trailed by 31 points after three quarters against the Dolphins. In all, Allen had more losses by at least 20 points (nine) than wins. It was performances like those that Mark Davis said he no longer wanted to see in Allens third season and that ultimately led to his downfall. Allen was a former defensive co-ordinator in Denver who was expected to modernize a defence that ran what were considered outdated schemes under Al Davis watch. The defence, instead, has gotten worse. Allen has overseen two of the three highest-scoring seasons by opponents in franchise history. The Raiders have yielded 27.8 points per game since the start of the 2012 season, allowing opponents to complete 67.6 per cent of their passes with a 101.6 passer rating. With Allen out, the pressure is now on McKenzie, who has two seasons left on his contract. McKenzies first two draft classes have had almost no impact, with the biggest disappointment being 2013 first-round cornerback DJ Hayden, who has struggled with injuries. Hayden was exposed in eight games as a rookie and hasnt played at all this season because of a foot injury. This years draft class appears to be much stronger, led by first-round linebacker Khalil Mack and second-round quarterback Derek Carr. But whether that will be enough for McKenzie to keep his job remains to be seen. McKenzie also has botched two off-season trades for quarterbacks, with Matt Flynn in 2013 and Matt Schaub this year failing to win starting jobs after being acquired to start. ' ' '

EDMONTON -- Despite landing NCAA free agent Justin Schultz a year ago, the Edmonton Oilers werent satisfied with their track record in the college market. So on Wednesday they announced the hiring of Bob Green as director of amateur free-agent scouting. The former general manager of the WHLs Edmonton Oil Kings will mostly be responsible for recruiting NCAA and CHL players. "Even though its the NHL, youve still got to recruit," Green said. "The high-end free agents that youre chasing after have a lot of interest from other teams, so youve got to have a good story to tell about Edmonton and the Oilers and youve got to be able to attract those guys and get them there. Its one thing to find them based on ability, its another thing getting them here." Stu MacGregor remains head of amateur scouting, something general manager Craig MacTavish emphasized after the teams initial press release called Green the teams director of amateur and free-agent scouting. MacTavish called it a "coup" for the organization to hire Green for this role. "There are a lot of people that slip through the draft and give us further opportunity," MacTavish said. "To have a guy with Bobs credibility in the CHL thatll be able to open the doors and really enhance our ability to attract and sign very good players coming in to our organization." Green, the WHLs executive of the year in 2011-12 and 2012-13, had been Oil Kings GM for the past six seasons. The Oil Kings won the WHL in 2011-12 and advanced to the Memorial Cup. The 52-year-old called returning to his passion of scouting an opportunity that was too good to turn down. "Its easier to leave after youve had success than if you havent," Green said. Now Greens focus is to help the Oilers have success, specifically in regard to signing college and over-age CHL players. "Theres 30 teams in the NHL -- its highly competitive," he said. "The margin of winning is extremely small, so any advantage you can get and any player that you can bring into your system that has an opportunity to make your team better, youve got to look at it." Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe reports that the New York Rangers are considering using a compliance buyout on centre Brad Richards. Ricards is 34-years-old and has six remaining on his current deal that carries an annual cap hit of $6,666,667. The former Conn Smythe-winner is unlikely to see out his full contract and, if he were to retire early, the Rangers would be on the hook for the remainder of the deal as per the new CBAs cap benefit recapture penalty. This would effectively mean that the Rangers would be carrying dead money against the cap, something that would cripple any club. Since the implementation of the compliance buyout option, teams have used it for 15 players including Richardss former Tampa Bay Lightning teammate, Vincent Lecavalier. Not so Wild about Vanek? Thomas Vanek is no longer a sure thing for the Minnesota Wild, so says Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. The connection to Minnesota for Vanek is obvious.dddddddddddd. Vanek starred for a the 2003 NCAA Champion Minnesota Golden Gophers, winning the Frozen Four MVP and became the first-ever freshman to do so. Still, Russo believes that the emergence of the Wilds young core that helped upset the Colorado Avalanche in the first round of the playoffs, coupled with Vaneks poor post-season with the Montreal Canadiens means that the team has cooled its interest in the Austrian. Vanek had five goals and five assists in 17 playoff games for the Canadiens. Getting Drafty in here? Josh Cooper of the Tennessean writes that the Nashville Predators could be looking at acquiring a second first-round pick in this months NHL Draft. The Predators hold the 11th pick in the draft, but also have two second-round selections (numbers 42 and 46 with the latter gained from the Detroit Red Wings as part of the David Legwand trade) and could use both of those to grab a second pick in the first round. Poile says that no movement will happen until the actual day of the draft. The last time the Predators had two first-rounders was in 2008, when they selected Colin Wilson and Chet Pickard. ' ' '

Korey Banks got his wish and has been traded from the BC Lions. The veteran defensive back and five-time CFL All-Star has been sent to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in exchange for non-import receiver Kito Poblah. It seemed only a matter of time before Banks would be out in BC after making it known he has no interest in playing out his option year with the team. Lions GM Wally Buono meanwhile, had stated he didnt intend to renegotiate Banks contract. The 10-year CFLer has played the last eight years in BC. Last year the 34-year-old recorded 46 tackles and two interceptions. For his career Banks has 442 tackles and 37 interceptions. "Were grateful for Koreys contributions to our club and we wish him the best in Winnipeg," Buono said in a team statement. "Korey adds an immediate presence in our locker room, veteran leadership both on and off the field, and we look forward to welcoming him to the Bomber organization," Bombers GM Kyle Walters said in a team statement. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Eric Berry credits Kansas Citys 4-0 start to the "family feeling" that held everyone together during the hapless 2-14 season of 2012. Maybe so. But after the Chiefs (4-0) pounded the winless New York Giants 31-7 on Sunday, its obvious that importing a cool, savvy quarterback from San Francisco and bringing in a smart, no-nonsense coach from Philadelphia also had a lot to do with a rags-to-riches transformation. Even in a league known for quick turnarounds and breathtaking free-falls, this seems preposterous. Alex Smith, who lost his job last year in San Francisco, threw three touchdown passes, and Dexter McCluster returned a punt 89 yards for another score as the Chiefs joined the 1980 Detroit Lions as the only teams in modern league history to win two or fewer games one season, then rocket to a 4-0 start the next. "To be honest, all we talked about all off-season was being 1-0," said Smith. "Just get the first one." Did he ever dream of being 4-0? "No, to answer your question." The Giants, proud Super Bowl champions of 2007 and 2011 season, are 0-4 for the first time since 1987, a mass of injury and disarray. "It is disappointing," said quarterback Eli Manning, whos been operating all year behind a patchwork offensive line. "The defence got us some turnovers and we werent able to do anything with it. We are just not playing very well offensively." The injury-ravaged Giants trailed only 17-7 after three quarters. They managed a 69-yard catch-and-run TD from Eli Manning to Victor Cruz. "This is a situation weve got to fix," said Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks. "We know what were capable of doing." Smith hit touchdown passes of 4, 2 and 35 yards and was 24 for 41 for 288 yards. He was intercepted twice and the Chiefs also lost a fumble, Kansas Citys first turnovers in what may be turning into a magical season under first-year head coach Andy Reid. "I know theyll battle," said first-year coach Andy Reid, who spent the previous 14 seasons coaching the Eagles. "Thats what I know. There are a lot of things I dont know but I do know this: Were a tough bunch." Manning was 18 for 37 for 217 yards and the one TD. He was sacked three times and intercepted once, but harried and hurried much of the bright, sunny afternoon. All of a sudden, the misery of 2012 that cost coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli their jobs seems a distant memory. "We just kept working, kept sticking together," said Berry. "We know things dont always go your way. But youve got to be able to stick together through tough times, in life, period. We kept leaning on each other. Nobody pointed a finger at anybody at any time. We just stuck together and I feel like that was the foundation that was built for us to do what were doing now. But weve still got a lot of work to do." Late in the first quarter, Smith hit Sean McGrath, Jamaal Charles and Dwayne Bowe for gains of 12, 17 and 14 yards on successive plays. McGrath, the heavily bearded tight end and Seattle Seahawks castoff, got free in the end zone to catch Smiths 5-yard TD pass to cap the 11-play, 98-yard drive. The drive took 5 minutes, 38 seconds. To answer, Manning needed only 54 seconds. Cruz went streaking down the right sideline -- turf normally patrolled by injured cornerback Brandon Flowers -- caught Mannings pass in stride and raced into the end zone. Trailing far behind was Dunta Robinson, a backup cornerback. The Chiefs led only 10-7 when McCluster fielded the ball and set sail on the first TD punt return the Chiefs have had since Sept. 13, 2010, when McCluster took one back a team-record 94 yards against San Diego during a rain storm. He juked one tackler, put a dizzying 360-degree spin move on another and then broke clear up the middle. Ryan Succop kicked a 51-yard field goal in the second quarter. In the fourth quarter, Smith fired a 2-yard TD pass to Charles and a 35-yarder to Bowe, who twisted free of a couple of tacklers. NOTES: Like many fans, referee Terry McAulay is used to Reid being with the Eagles. HOUSTON - The Houston Rockets have put an emphasis on improving their defence this season. The Rockets continued their strong defensive start Saturday night.James Harden had 26 points and eight rebounds, and the Rockets used a big first quarter to defeat the Boston Celtics 104-90.Harden was 5 of 14 from the field, but he was 14 of 14 from the free throw line. He also had six assists and four steals. Its really good, Harden said of the defence. Our first three games of the season have been really good defensively. We have a long way to go. We can get better.Terrence Jones added 25 points and 10 rebounds, and Dwight Howard had 14 points and eight rebounds for the Rockets, who started 3-0 for the second straight season.
